Waterfall Health Farms, a family run business is one of the world’s oldest buchu farms located in South Africa. We’ve been growing, harvesting and distilling sustainable, high quality South African buchu oil on the slopes of the Du-Toitskloof mountains in Paarl since 1969.
With it’s raw, natural beauty, position on the mountain slopes and close proximity to Cape Town it remains unique to many of the farms in the western Cape.
Waterfall is responsible for being the first to extract and export Buchu oil which adds to the uniqueness and authenticity of our farm.
In 1969 our founder, Edward Godfrey moved onto one of our neighbouring farms to care for his father in his final years. During his time here, he would go for daily walks into the mountain where he discovered Buchu by its unique odour. He was instantly drawn to Buchu and started studying it closely, gaining much knowledge from both books as well as countless practical experiments and as a result Waterfall Health Farms was born.
Fire, theft and considerable fluctuations in supply and demand have been some of our challenges over the last 53 years. The wonderful thing about Buchu however, is that it is extremely difficult, if not near impossible to replace it with another natural or synthetic ingredient.
Over the years, the bulk of our business has originated from the flavour and fragrance sector however the medicinal sector is now expanding with an increased interest in the medicinal properties of Buchu.
As another year draws to a close, our business focus for 2023 remains expanding the growing of raw material to maintain sustainability between us, our suppliers and our valuable customers.
